The Carmel Ardito School of Dance

Curriculum

The curriculum practiced at the studio is based on age and ability, and is taught through a graded syllabus.

Pre-Ballet (ages 3 to 7)

This delightful class introduces the young dancer to the very basic elements of ballet. The young students work on rhythmic moves, stretching and strengthening exercises, and basic combinations of steps along with moving patterns. Although this class is an educational experience, it is presented in a very “fun” and happy atmosphere and is a big hit with the young students.

Classical Ballet (Technique and Pointe) (ages 8 to adult)

The class is designed to take a student through the levels of classical ballet. When a student has acquired the necessary knowledge, skills and strength, they will move on to “Pointe” class. The proper French terminology of the classic steps, the alignment of the body, and correct technique is a must in the classical ballet class. The class is conducted with barre and center work, where an understanding of musicality and expression are stressed as well.

Tap Dance (Beginner, intermediate and advanced levels…ages 5 to adult)

Tap class has many facets for dancers of all ages. The young child will develop a great sense of rhythm and movement. Intermediate and advanced students will learn many styles of this American art form, from Broadway styled tap to “Hoofer” style. The dancer develops a complex sense of rhythm, movement, and speed of execution of the feet.

Jazz Dance (ages 7 to adult)

Junior jazz - Introduces the dancer to the basic exercises of a jazz class. This includes warm up, stretch and strengthening, and combinations of moves suitable for the young student. We screen all music for this high energy class.

Intermediate and advanced jazz - The styles that are taught for this class broaden greatly. Our belief is that a well rounded dancer should be exposed to the many styles of jazz dance. For example, the students may experience a funky, hip hop styled class, a video styled jazz class, a Theater jazz class (as seen on Broadway) and a true classic jazz class.

Dancers will practice standing and floor exercises, barre stretches, jazz combinations and also jazz progressions. Jazz class is a high energy class motivated by style and music.

Lyrical Class (Junior and Senior….. ages 11 to adult)

Lyrical dance is the melting pot of many forms of dance, including classical ballet, modern dance and jazz dance, all presented with a contemporary feel. The presentations are usually dramatic and a good deal of acting and interpretation are involved. A kaleidoscope of dance, lyrical is a great class for dancers of all levels to express this free style dance form.
